I was meditating on what it was like years ago when I was in grade school and cell phones and the Internet did not exist. Don't get me wrong. I love these conveniences and the access to lots of information... what I realized that I don't love is the addiction to being connected *all* the time. To having to tune in (which causes me to tune out). So I'm beginning an experiment to go back in time a bit. Let's see if I have it in me to do without the constant connection through a cell phone and texting. I just signed up to start a home phone service. All the land line services sounded so foreign to me! Next I will tackle the cell phone... get rid of (brand new touch) phone and replace with pager for emergencies. I know... that's so 1980's! My mom had one when we were in school... her and the drug dealers :) (remember?!)
I'll see how this experiment goes as I adjust. Oh yes, and the Internet - this is simple... I'll keep the computer turned off while at home for the most part. No automatic turning on of the machine when I walk through the door. Maybe I'm also talking about tuning into my habits and breaking those that are no longer serving me. I don't want to go so quickly through life and take in so much information. I'm going to slow right on down.
